Location:
Purbeck - Various start points in and around the area
Date/Time:
Weekly Thursday 10.00 start
Details:
Rides will start at 10.00am and will last up to 3 hours. The approximate distance travelled will be 20 - 30 miles, depending on the surface, terrain, gradient & general difficulty. Rides may be on road, off road, or a mixture of the two. The rides will be circular, starting from a car park. This will generally be a different location each week, to ensure a good variety of rides. The start (& end) point is likely to be a cafe or pub, so that lunch can be planned & available at the end of the ride. Participants will therefore need to be able to transport their bike(s) by car, unless the chosen location is near enough to cycle from home.
After a short introductory period, participants will be expected to take turns, (via a rota) to devise, plan & lead rides. The emphasis will be on E for enjoyment, so that where necessary, riders can use different levels of motor assistance to even out differences in strength & endurance levels. Nevertheless a moderate degree of fitness will be required to complete the rides.

As implied in the title this will be for non-electric bikes. This usually means between 12 and 18 miles depending on elevation. Rides will be primarily on roads and easy tracks.
There will be a rota planned out for leaders to design and reccie the ride if necessary. Rides are normally planned in pairs so that we can have a back marker or split into 2 groups when there is a large turnout.Contact:

Details:
Purbeck U3A Walking Group meets monthly throughout the year for circular walks starting from various locations in the Purbecks and lasting about two hours. The start points always have parking available and are never more than a short drive from one of the main towns. We encourage car sharing.
In some cases the start and finish point will be where those so minded can stop to socialise over refreshments or lunch.
Suitable footwear is essential, and waterproof clothing and walking poles or sticks are recommended. There may be stiles to negotiate. Please bring a drink.
Non-members are welcome for an initial walk but you must take out membership of Purbeck U3A prior to any further walk in order that the necessary insurance cover is in place.
Our programme of walks (2024) is to be found HERE
