Meeting Points is the monthly meeting for all members of Purbeck U3A.
Our meetings are held in the Harman's Cross Village Hall on the fourth Thursday of the month (except July, August and December). We have an exciting line up of speakers for you to enjoy in 2025 2026(please see below).
The meetings start at 10.00am with refreshments (doors open 9:45am) and include a talk, PU3A updates and news at around 10.20am.
This is an opportunity to meet your committee members, socialise with other PU3A members and be entertained by our visiting speakers.
New members are especially welcome – just let us know at the door that it is your first visit and we’ll help with introductions.
There is a small charge of £3.00 for guests attending these events.

Psychedelic Assisted Therapy For Mental Health Disorders by Jo Neill

Jo Neill is Professor of Psychopharmacology at the University of Manchester. She is Chair of the Medical Psychedelics Working Group, and Chair of Trustees at Drug Science, a Trustee for Heroic Hearts UK, and Onaya Science and a scientific advisor for the Centre for Evidence Based Drug Policy. She is co-founder of b-neuro, a University based Contract Research Organisation developing new treatments for mental illness through animal models and past President of the British Association for Psychopharmacology (President 2016-2018). She served on the Research Excellence Framework panel for Unit of Assessment 3 (Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) in 2014. Jo is working with Policy at Manchester and Drug Science to educate the public about the urgent need for drug law reform and suspension of Schedule 1 restrictions to enable research into the medicinal properties of currently illegal drugs. She is a co-host of the Drug Science podcast alongside Prof David Nutt and Dr Hannah Thurgur. Jo will explore the use of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy for psychiatric and neurological disorders, particularly for existential anxiety in people with cancer and other life-threatening disorders. She will discuss this in the context of drug policy failure in the UK, and compare this with success in other parts of the world.

Doors open at 9.45am. The proceedings start, after coffee, at around 10.20am with news and notices, followed by the talk at 10.30am.
